The Entomological Society of New Zealand is pleased to announce the publication of the 15th Bulletin of the Society: Identification Guide to Lepidoptera Larvae Intercepted on Trade Pathways. This guide provides keys for the recognition of caterpillars that are commonly intercepted in imports and exports, including New Zealand native species as well as economically significant pests associated with fresh produce traded to and from Pacific island countries.
The guide was prepared using invertebrate interception data collected from fresh produce imported into New Zealand covering pre- and post-border interceptions from 1990–2008. An introduction to characteristic body structures of Lepidoptera larva is given with reference to the families, genera and species covered within this guide. Illustrated keys are provided to larvae of 73 species in 72 genera from 19 Lepidoptera families commonly intercepted on New Zealand trade pathways. Notes are given on the hosts and/or commodities from which larvae were intercepted.
The guide is now available from Manaaki Whenua press. Members of the Entomological Society of New Zealand receive a 10% discount.
