Wellington

The Wellington Branch of the Entomological Society has been officially revived on the 5.12.2018 and we look forward to meeting with people, not only interested in insects, but all kinds of terrestrial and freshwater invertebrates.

Evening meetings for members and visitors will be held on the last Wednesday of every second month (February, April, June, August, October) and the AGM on the first Wednesday of December. The venue is “The Giant Squid” at Te Papa’s collection building, 169 Tory Street, to be accessed via the car park at the back side. Parking is available on the road and in at the visitor car park area, left of the building. Meetings start about 7.00 pm, note that someone will escort you through the electronic door between 6:45 to 7.05 pm. The meetings will be a mixture of scientific presentations, project introductions and field trip notes ideally accompanied by a display table with invertebrates. Some nibbles or drinks to share during of the meeting are always welcome. The members will organise two field trips or light-trapping trips to local areas using private transport, as well as some public events and workshops per year for amateurs. These workshops include topics such as identification sessions, mounting and rearing techniques, drawing and photograph. There is also an annual dinner planned for members.

All events and much more are posted here.

Branch members are able to receive a copy of THE WETA, (News bulletin of the Entomological Society of New Zealand, which contains articles on research, new insect finds, book reviews and news items), if not already subscribed via the Entomological Society. They are encouraged to attend the annual three-day conference held in May in a different centre each year.
